Sing!

I was so fortunate to have met the music “Jubilate Deo” by Dan Forrest and have opportunities to practice this song thanks to Kona Choral Society.

For the choir’s concert in June, I practiced this music A LOT.

After coming home from work, I was exhausted. However, I pushed myself to practice singing about 1 hour in my car.

I was doing it because I could not blast for fortissimo part that this music piece had in many places at home. We were too close to both neighbors, and I would have been too loud.

On my off days, I went to the park nearby and practicing in the car for a while.

People in my neighborhood might have been puzzled to see me what is going on in the car! I am sure they have realized I was practicing for some music event since I was holding the black folders of the music and singing.

I wanted to prepare myself to be able to sing without looking down the score during the concert.

I did my best to sing and create this music together with other singers and orchestra performers.

After the concert finished, one of choir members told me in the green room, “It was fun, wasn’t it?” I said yes. Then, I wanted to ask her one thing.

“Do you see music notes in front of you when you close your eyes?” This has been bothered me for a while since I started to practice intensively for the concert.

She looked surprised and said, “No…”

I was wondering whether it have been happening to other members too.

Actually, I was seeing music scores while my eyes were opened as well. I did not recognize specific lines or melody from them. However, the music score was sticking in front of me!

After this concert was over, I took a break from singing for a while. One reason was our house and area were SO HOT in June and could not do anything at home including singing.

Then, those music scores appearing in front of me have disappeared totally.

Now it is getting time for me to start practicing again.

After the concert, I realized very clearly that I want to improve my own voice further.

I put so much energy on preparation for the concert, but that really helped me to strengthen my singing and added more singing muscle.

Now I would like to express freely and more what I want to from my heart and soul.
